The centre will be located on AIMSCS campus Both will have student and faculty exchanges Kakinada: JNTU, Kakinada, is likely to sign an agreement with the C.R Rao Advanced Institute of Mathematics, Statistics and Computer Science (AIMSCS) of University of Hyderabad for establishment of a centre for collaborative research in bioinformatics, biostatistics, signal and image processing and other related subjects. The centre is proposed to be located on AIMSCS campus in the State Capital with some facilities at JNTU, Kakinada. AIMSCS Director S.B. Rao has held negotiations with JNTU Vice-Chancellor Allam Appa Rao and the proposal is set to be given shape soon. Both the institutions will have student and faculty exchanges and jointly implement research projects with financial assistance from the Central and State Governments and under the Technical Education Quality Improvement Program (TEQIP). Speaking to media persons at JNTU here on Tuesday, Prof. S.B. Rao said the JNTU Vice-Chancellor had evinced interest in promoting research in areas of mutual interest and the AIMSCS reciprocated with the above proposal. The Vice-Chancellor himself was an expert in the fields of computational biology, computer engineering and mathematical economics. ResourcesProf. S.B Rao and his team of researchers would contribute their knowledge to find new applications of science and technology in the aforementioned areas. Being a new institution, the AIMSCS was mobilising resources needed to carry out research work and disseminate knowledge through workshops, lectures etc. The institute is currently striving for additional Central assistance of Rs. 5 crores through the State government to expand its activities under the valuable guidance of the world renowned statistician C.R. Rao, AIMSCS Governing Council chairman and former governor C. Rangarajan, DRDO chief controller V.K. Saraswat and other stalwarts. Besides, the AIMSCS was in the process of setting up centres of excellence in mathematical sciences, statistics, computer science and computational genomics. Funds for these would come from the Department of Science and Technology, National Technical Research Organisation and other agencies.
