Tamils in Sri Lanka

The resolution adopted by Tamil Nadu’s political parties saying their MPs will resign if the Centre does not ensure a ceasefire in Sri Lanka is welcome. The people of Tamil Nadu cannot watch their brethren in Sri Lanka suffer. There is nothing wrong in trying to save them.

After the cessation of hostilities in the island-nation, the leaders must appeal to the LTTE to lay down weapons, which it uses to kill Tamils who do not agree with it and hold a different view.

T.N. Arthanari,

Salem

Tamil Nadu is perhaps the only State where regional parties have become powerful by whipping up linguistic emotions. Many of them have sympathy for fringe groups which espouse the cause of a separate Tamil Nadu. They openly support a banned organisation like the LTTE. They are tolerated because of political exigencies.

K.N. Ramani,

Coimbatore
