Salem
It will be implemented on November Queries on applications will be answered SALEM: People seeking birth/death certificates do not have to make frequent visits to the offices of Salem Corporation hereafter to know the status of their applications. The civic body will deliver the same to their mobile phones via Short Message Service. This new mobile information delivery system is likely to come into effect in the city from this November. The civic body gets about 150 to 200 applications on every working day seeking birth/death certificates. The officials are taking several days to process these applications. “In certain cases, it takes more than a month for the civic body to issue the certificates and the applicants are made to run from pillar to post to know the status of their request,” say people in the locality. To alleviate the sufferings of the people, the civic body has decided to adopt the new system to send the status of the application via SMS. “This will help people avoid unnecessary visits to the civic offices to check the status. We will also inform the applicants, if we require additional details from them,” Corporation Commissioner K.S. Palanisamy says. A sanitary inspector would be assigned to respond to the queries raised by the applicants, officials added.
