“LTTE interfering in India’s internal affairs” “I am the only leader who opposes LTTE in State”
CHENNAI: AIADMK general secretary Jayalalithaa on Wednesday condemned the pro-LTTE speeches made by film directors Seeman and Amir and a few politicians and said supporting the outfit, responsible for the assassination of former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi, was an anti-national activity. “The Sri Lankan Tamils don’t depend on LTTE chief Prabakaran. He is a destructive force. He will make use of the ceasefire only to amass weapons and other things. Who is responsible for the killing of leaders like Amirthalingam and Padmanahbha? It is none other than Prabakaran,” she said in a statement. Blatant propagandaAlleging that blatant propaganda in support of the LTTE became rampant in Tamil Nadu whenever the DMK was in power, Ms Jayalalithaa said the propagandists had gone to the extent of articulating objectionable and anti-national slogans like “creation of separate Tamil Nadu” and “ready to take up arms for the cause.” Ms. Jayalalithaa said had she been in power she would have arrested the pro-LTTE propagandists. “I did arrest them under the POTA. Since the POTA is no longer in force they have become reckless. Still the government can take action against them under other laws.” ‘Anti-nationals’Ms. Jayalalithaa said she was opposing the LTTE because it was interfering in India’s internal affairs. “It encourages all anti-national forces. It killed Rajiv Gandhi on the soil of Tamil Nadu. It has links with PWG, ULFA, LeT and ISI that are out to disintegrate the country. If those who oppose the LTTE are termed betrayers of Tamils, those who support them are anti-nationals.” The AIADMK leader said she had been provided “Z plus” security and NSG protection since she was on the hit list of the LTTE. “I am the only leader who opposes the LTTE in Tamil Nadu.” ‘Not a family problem’Taking exception to Priyanka Vadra’s visit to the Vellore prison for meeting Nalini, a life convict in the Rajiv Gandhi assassination case, she said it was unacceptable. “It is not just the problem of Sonia Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi. It is not their family problem. It is the country’s problem. Assassination of a former prime minister is a challenge to the country’s sovereignty,” Ms. Jayalalithaa argued.
