CHENNAI: A teenaged girl was kidnapped by a two-member gang on the Evening Bazaar Road on Tuesday night. Public and police chased the suspects, cornered them within minutes and rescued the girl. Police said the victim was sleeping along with her parents in a roadside tent when the accused, A. Tajudeen (28) and F.Bilal (28) of Kodungaiyur, woke her up on the pretext of seeking directions for an address. While the girl was trying to explain, they forced her into their car. She raised an alarm drawing the attention of her parents and passers-by. While one of the locals alerted the police, others chased the speeding car. The vehicle was cornered near Flower Bazaar. The accused were produced in a city court and remanded to judicial custody. Domestic help heldA domestic help was taken into custody on charges of stealing five sovereigns of gold jewellery from the house of her employer in Nungambakkam on Wednesday. According to police , Sudhir Rao residing in a private apartment had lodged a complaint with the police that gold jewellery was missing from his house. A special team interrogated domestic help R.Valarmathi alias Jayalakshmi (39) . A search in her house revealed a receipt issued by a pawn shop. On further enquiry, she confessed to having committed the crime.
