Sarpanches seek action against official

Correspondent

VIZIANAGARAM: Villagers from Sarika and members of the A.P. Sarpanches’ Association on Thursday staged protest demonstrations at the Mandal Development Office here demanding an inquiry into the incident at Sarika panchayat office on Wednesday and take action against the Extension Officer (Panchayat Raj) Subba Raju.

‘Release MPTC’

They also demanded release of Mamidi Appala Naidu, Sarika MPTC and vice-president of Vizianagaram MPP, who was arrested on the basis of a complaint lodged with the rural police by the official that Naidu assaulted him when he went to the panchayat office to verify records.

Later, G. Raja Rao, president, and G.S. Naidu, secretary of the association, and A. Mohana Rao, leader of the District MPTCs Association, told reporters that they would intensify the agitation if no action was taken against the official for his “indecent behaviour.”

They said that the official visited the panchayat office without notice.
