Contract workers seek their due

VIZIANAGARAM: Under the aegis of JASTA (Joint Action of State-related Trade Unions and Associations), Aasha, mid-day meal workers and angawadis, who are on contract, on Thursday locked the tehsildar’s office here and staged protest demonstrations from 9.30 a.m. to 1 p.m.

They did not allow employees to go into the office.

The workers were demanding that the government fulfil the promises made to them before the 2004 elections.

J.V. Prasada Rao, JASTA district general secretary, said that the government had not so far fulfilled its promise to regularise para-medical employees. Noticing that there was no response to their protests from officials, the protesters left the place on their own.
