dated October 24, 1958: Disarmament

India and Yugoslavia on October 22 formally moved to expand the 25-nation Disarmament Commission to a body composed of the entire United Nations membership. In a resolution tabled in the General Assembly’s political committee, the two Powers proposed that such a commission should submit, if necessary, at a special assembly session, “constructive proposals and recommendations in the field of disarmament.” The commission, the draft said, should “make every effort to reach agreements, commencing with those aspects of the problem which seem to offer the best immediate possibilities.”
