Letters to the Editor
This refers to the interview of senior Congress leader Salman Khursheed (Op-Ed, October 23). It is true that the mystery behind the Jamia Nagar encounter has not yet been resolved. The need of the hour, as Mr. Khursheed points out, is a white paper on the encounter. J. Anantha Padmanabhan, Srirangam Mr. Salman Khursheed’s is so far the only voice in the Congress that is loud when pressing for a judicial probe into the encounter, although many other non-Congressmen have joined the league that is demanding clarity on the issue. The questions raised by those demanding the probe are far too many and those who deny the demand and wish silence be maintained call for the sacrifice of a fundamental right on the altar of patriotism. Yasir Malik, New Delhi What is going to be achieved by a judicial probe except appeasement of the Muslim vote bank? When an efficient police officer has been murdered by terrorists, why are people bent on probing the role of the police? Do innocent angels carry a gun and attack when the opportunity comes? Arun, Puducherry
