Bulk orders received from associations Profit till August stands at Rs. 1.04 cr.
MADURAI: This Deepavali season has proved to be sweeter than the last for Madurai Aavin as it is on its way to double the sales figure of its milk products. Of the targeted sales of Rs. 1 crore, Madurai Aavin had already touched Rs. 90 lakh with a few days left for the festival, Collector S.S. Jawahar, who is also its Special Officer, said while addressing a press conference here on Thursday. Many bulk orders were received from various associations and companies owing to the quality of Aavin. Its profit as on August this year stood at Rs. 1.04 crore, he said. Efforts were also under way to rope in women self-help groups to sell Aavin milk and other products soon as its ‘commission agents.’ The technicalities of the security deposit amount to be given to the Aavin for selling its products were being worked out, Mr. Jawahar said. Imparting training and providing infrastructure would be done through the ‘Mahalir Thittam,’ he said. Addition of 1,000 self-help groups was the target for the Madurai Aavin. As many as 414 SHGs were contributing nearly 40,000 litres of milk every day. Several modern equipment were being installed at the Madurai Aavin plant as a part of ‘Mega Dairy’ project, which aimed to increase the procurement to 5 lakh litres a day, and sales to 3 lakh litres a day. K. Thangarajan, General Manager (in-charge) of Madurai Aavin, and S. Karthikeyan, Marketing and Milk Procurement Manager, were also present.
