Centre sanctions funds for sports

Finance Department asked to release cash awards to sportspersons
Youth hostels at Vizianagaram, Rajahmundry, Kadapa, Karimnagar and Siddipet

HYDERABAD: The Centre has contributed Rs. 26 crore to the State under the ‘Panchayat Yuva Krida and Khel Abhiyan’.

At a review of the Sports and Youth Services Department on Friday, Chief Minister Y. S. Rajasekhara Reddy was informed by Principal Secretary, Sports, S. N. Mohanty, about the State’s contribution.

Dr. Reddy asked the Finance Department to release Rs. 6.89 crore as State’s contribution, as additional project to the Sports Authority of Andhra Pradesh.

Lease issue

He directed officials that the in-charge Minister and Collector should be made the chairman and the executive chairman of the District Sports Authority respectively. On the construction/leasing of upcoming Sports Towers at Gachibowli, he asked officials to complete the remaining six floors and lease the entire complex, but keep the provision to requisition sufficient rooms as and when required by SAAP.

Dr. Reddy instructed the Finance Department to release cash awards to the national and international prize winners.

He agreed to allow the State, Central and public undertaking employees to be made members of SAAP and the District or mandal sports authority.

The Chief Minister was informed that the Centre has agreed for the construction of five youth hostels in Vizianagaram, Rajahmundry, Kadapa, Karimnagar and Siddipet.
