Include a guardian in school fee hike panel: Vardhan

Staff Reporter

NEW DELHI: Delhi BJP president Harsh Vardhan on Friday demanded that a guardian of a student be included in the seven-member committee constituted by the Delhi Government over the issue of a possible fee hike.

In a statement, Dr. Vardhan said the issue was very sensitive and such raises by private schools should not be allowed without ascertaining the views of the guardians.

The BJP leader also raised the issue of most private schools in Delhi not providing free education to poor children in violation of the mandate.

Dr. Vardhan said the committee constituted by the Government should also ensure that all public schools provide free education to poor children.

Dr. Vardhan said it was a matter of concern that parents in Delhi pay the highest fees in the country. “If the private schools are allowed to increase fees arbitrarily in the name of the Sixth Pay Commission, then economically weaker parents would be compelled to take their children out of these schools,” he cautioned.
