Corrections and clarifications

A report in “Briefly” (October 22, 2008, page 1) said the Group of Ministers had cleared the proposal to raise the FDI cap in the insurance sector. A reader pointed out that this was old news, and that the Union Cabinet, on October 17, had decided to defer the bill to effect the change. The Executive Editor, PTI, clarifies that the report was based on an answer in the Rajya Sabha and it also included the Cabinet’s decision, which was not in the published report. The lead paragraph alone, which was old news, was published.

A caption of the accompanying photograph in a report “Kannappan arrested at Pollachi” (October 24, 2008) described Mr. M. Kannappan as the MDMK treasurer, while the text said he is the MDMK presidium president and Thondamuthur MLA. Mr. Kannappan is the presidium president. Treasurer was his earlier posting.

The scoreboard of a report “Vettori dashes Bangladeshi hopes” (“Sport”, October 22, 2008) was “Fall of wickets: … 7-317.” It should have been “7-316”.
