ARIYALUR: Four new meet records were set at the State junior athletics championship, organised by the Perambalur District Athletics Association, here on Friday. In the boys’ u-18 hammer throw, Shankar of Golden Eagle Athletic Club heaved the iron to a new distance of 59.90m, which bettered his own record of 56.80m. Vasumathi winsIn the girls’ u-18 discus throw, Vasumathi of SDAT hauled the discus to 38.87m erasing the previous record of 38.57m set by Anitcham. In the girls’ under-16 javelin throw, Manisha of SDAT sent the javelin to a distance of 35.78m and eclipsed her own effort of 33m. R. Soundarya of St. Joseph’s Prime Sports Academy had a leap of 4.81m in the girls’ under-14 long jump to overhaul her own record of 4.71m. The results (winners only): Boys’ U-20: Discus: 1. Ramadoss 45.22m. Hammer: 1. Prabhu Shankar (Golden Eagle) 48.72m. Under-18: Long jump: 1. Kesavaramana (SJPSA) 6.91m. Hammer: 1. Shankar (Golden Eagle AC) 59.90m (NMR). Under-16: Javelin: 1. Muthuprabhu (SDAT) 50.49m. Girls’ Under-20: High jump: 1. Anithasree (SJPSA) 1.49m. Under-18: 100m hurdles: 1. Hemasree (SJPSA) 14.7s. Discus: 1. Vasumathi (SDAT) 38.87m (NMR).
