KOCHI: Revenue Minister K.P. Rajendran has asked the district revenue officials to show more initiative in finding puramboke land to be used for development activities. He was addressing a meeting held at the district collectorate on Friday to evaluate the arrangements being made for the forthcoming pattaya mela to be held at Ernakulam Town Hall on October 28. Mr. Rajendran directed various departments to report the details of the land available with them without delay. He said an additional Rs.38 lakh had been allotted for the assistance of those affected by monsoon in the district. About 700 landless families in the district would be given title deeds and possession certificates at the mela. Mr. Rajendran will inaugurate the mela at 10 a.m. Fisheries Minister S. Sarma will handover the possession certificates. Mayor Mercy Williams will be the chief guest. MPs, Sebastian Paul, P.C. Thomas, Lonappan Nambadan and K. Chandran Pillai; MLAs, K. Babu, C.M. Dinesh Mani, Babu Paul, V.K. Ibrahim Kunju, M.K. Purushothaman, A.M. Yousuf, T.U. Kuruvila, V.D. Satheeshan, Jose Thettayil, Saju Paul, M.M. Monayi, M.J. Jacob, and Simon Britto; district panchayat president, P.S. Shyla are expected to attend. A comprehensive discussion on the land policy announced by the State government earlier this year has also been organised at the collectorate on October 26. The meeting decided to launch land protection day programmes at all revenue offices on November 1.
