For children: Governor Rameshwar Thakur releasing the book ‘Fit to Feel Fine’ at the Raj Bhavan in Bangalore on Friday. Co-authors Dr. Nandini Mundkur and Dr. Ram Anand, and managing trustee of ICPC Ashok Bhaktavatsalam are seen. BANGALORE: “Fit to Feel Fine”, an activity book focusing on developing positive behaviour among children, was released by Governor Rameshwar Thakur here on Friday. Co-authored by Dr. Nandini Mundkur and Dr. Ram Anand, the book gives importance to yoga, health, nutrition, and developing empathy and compassion. Brought out by the International Children’s Peace Council (ICPC), which has been working towards making children understand the value of peace, “Fit to Feel Fine”, will be the first in the series of books that are being brought out on building strong children. It contains activities which facilitate open discussion between parents or teachers and the children. “This will help to understand and build strong bonds between them,” said Dr. Mundkur, a development paediatrician, who has been in the field for 25 years. Co-author Dr. Anand is a child psychiatrist. Dr. Mundkur said there had been a rise in stress-related disorders among children because of their exposure to violence and vandalism, and the children express their negative emotions through violent behaviour and resort to vandalism while some even commit suicide. “This activity is designed for children aged between 7 and 10. This is the age when the social intelligence starts,” Dr. Mundkur said and added: “it was challenging to bring the medical concept for use of children.” Chief Secretary Sudhakar Rao and managing trustee of ICPC Ashok Bhaktavatsalam were present.
