TADEPALLIGUDEM: TDP president N. Chandrababu Naidu on Saturday sought an inquiry into the alleged tapping of telephones of Opposition leaders. In an oblique reference to the charge of Praja Rajyam leaders that their telephones were subjected to tapping by government agencies at the behest of the ruling Congress, Mr. Naidu, who was here to participate in his party-sponsored ‘Rytu Garjana’, highlighted the need for Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhar Reddy to prove his innocence in the issue. Recalling a similar allegation he made a couple of years ago, he said it had become a common practice during the Congress rule.

Addressing a massive gathering, he lambasted the Congress for allegedly showing step-motherly attitude towards the farmers of the State in fixation of minimum support price for paddy.

Meanwhile, the traffic on the Chennai-Kolkatta National Highway-5 leading to this town went out of gear for well over four hours following closure of traffic by the police for the programme.

Offers to actors

Rajahmundry: Mr. Naidu alleged that the Congress was luring film artistes into its fold by giving valuable sites in Hyderabad, exemptions to lands and even offering huge amounts of money.

Replying to a question during a press conference at Madhurapudi Airport in West Godavari district, he said that the TDP did not ask Balakrishna or Kalyanram or Junior NTR to campaign for it as the party is losing charisma or new parties have come up.

“Our family members decided to support the party keeping elections in view. What is wrong in it?” asked the TDP president.
