APGenco brings down power unit cost

Special Correspondent

HYDERABAD: APGenco has performed a feat by achieving financial closure for two of its major projects and by bringing down the unit cost of the power generated by its existing thermal/hydel stations to Rs 1.45 from Rs 1.60.

At the same time, the undertaking that meets nearly 60 per cent of Andhra Pradesh’s power requirements with an annual turnover of Rs 7,600 crore is heading to earn a profit of Rs. 200 crore this fiscal too compared to last year’s Rs. 198 crore.

The average unit cost in case of private plants works out to Rs. 3. The feat has been achieved despite the recession that overtook financial institutions in India due to the slowdown in the U.S.
