Two to tango: A still from ‘Hero’. Film: Hero Cast: Nitin, Bhavana Direction: Sudhakar Naidu A minister passes an order that the city requires more police officers so anyone who is just about honest will be more than welcome, so a bunch of youngsters and even middle aged men join as recruits. Radhakrishna (Nitin) and Krishnaveni (Bhavana) are amongst them. While the former is pampered by his mother, Kovai Sarala, his father, Nagendra Babu, a police commissioner, wishes to see him in a more disciplined role. The film takes a serious turn when it is revealed on the television that Bhavana is a naxalite and from then on the drama becomes an endless effort of unravelling her past and Nitin’s role in it. Nitin struggles to be an effective lead failing miserably to convey any of the conflicts facing his character. Bhavana tries to portray feistiness but ends up being loud. Villain turned director GV or Sudhakar Naidu hurriedly skips from visually impressive set pieces to another while slighting character development likes making Nagendra Babu the film’s hero. Kapil Khanna is apt as the villain and the rest like Kota, Prem Kumar appear innocuous. Ramya Krishna or Tanu Roy’s cameo hardly helps. A noble storyline but the director comes up short.
