MADURAI: Five new door frame metal detectors were installed at all the five entrances of the Meenakshi Sundareswarar Temple here on Friday. Bank of India had donated the detectors to the temple. The detectors were commissioned by Commissioner of Police K.Nandabalan. After a series of blasts in a few States, the police had stepped up its security and devotees were permitted entry only after thorough check. Among many sensitive places identified across the State, the Meenakshi temple too came under the security blanket, the Commissioner said and added that round-the-clock police control room functioned with adequate policemen and officers. The police would now be in a position to speed up the process of checks at the entrances, police officials said. Apart from regular frisking, special police squads carried out surprise checks and monitored movements of the people at different entrances. The bomb detection and disposal squad were also posted on round-the-clock duty, police said.
