Tour turns out to be a show of strength by ex-MLA Nandamuri family fully geared to restore TDP’s glory, says Kalyan Ram
Star attraction: Film actor Nandamuri Kalyanram leading a TDP roadshow at Nidamanuru near Vijayawada on Saturday. GANNAVARAM (Krishna district): Nandamuri Kalyan Ram, grandson of NTR, made a whirlwind tour of the Gannanvaram Assembly constituency on Saturday amid efforts by the Telugu Desam Party leadership to use his visit to boost the morale of the party cadres ahead of elections. Party circles were full of speculation that Kalyan Ram’s visit would trigger a show of strengths among the warring groups of the TDP led by former MLA Dasari Balavardhana Rao, former MP Gadde Rammohan and film producer Vallabhaneni Vamsi, who also set his sights on the Gannavaram ticket in the coming elections. Kalyan Ram’s tour witnessed a good response from the party cadres and people, who responded well as the actor kept waving from an open-top van all along the route. His visit started at Ramavarappadu circle, where he garlanded the statue of Babu Jagjeevan Ram, and later went on a spree of hoisting TDP flags and garlanding photos of NTR at Ramavarappadu Centre, Prasadampadu, Nidamanuru and other places. The young actor addressed impressive gatherings at Gannavaram and Hanuman Junction. Standing next to Kalyan Ram in the van, former MLA Balavardhana Rao apparently sent a signal to people of the constituency about his unfailing grip over the TDP Gannavaram wing. More or less, the actor’s tour turned out to be a show of strength by Mr. Balavardhana Rao. With TDP yellow flags fluttering on their vehicles, hundreds of party enthusiasts and young activists followed Kalyan Ram throughout the tour. Whistling and slogan-shouting marked the response to the short but striking speeches of the actor. “We need your support to make Yuva Garjana a huge success. You give your support like you did for the meetings of NTR”, he said, evoking thunderous response from the crowds. In his public speeches, Mr. Kalyan Ram sought to cheer the crowds saying their favourite star Nandamuri Balakrishna would take the ultimate political plunge at the forthcoming Yuva Garjana to be held at Guntur on November 5. The actor also sought to reassert that the entire Nandamuri family was fully prepared and geared up to bring the past glory to the TDP. Mr. Kalyan Ram made a special mention of how the Nandamuri family joined forces to support and strengthen the leadership of TDP president N. Chandrababu Naidu. “Our family is fully behind Mr. Chandrababu Naidu. He will make all announcements on our behalf. Do not go by the statements of others,” he told the party activists and fans.
