519 teachers taken into custody

MACHILIPATNAM: Foiling the agitation staged by the teachers at the Collectorate here, the police took as many as 519 teachers into custody on Saturday.

Responding to a call given by the Joint Action Committee of the Teachers Organisations (JACTO), the teachers staged a dharna in front of the district Collector’s office here in the morning.

The JACTO leaders demanded two notional increments to apprentice teachers and implementation of old pension schemes and other terminal benefits to those teachers recruited from 2002-03.
