Land-grabbers to be detained under Goondas Act

Staff Reporter

Strike forces have helped to check quarrying along the Palar in the last 2 months

KANCHEEPURAM: Persons indulging in land-grabbing regularly will be detained under the Goondas Act, said Superintendent of Kancheepuram police district K. Periaiya.

Talking to reporters here on Saturday, the SP said it was found that some persons had made it a practice to grab lands and sell them to others without the knowledge of actual owners. They pose themselves as “mediators” and dupe prospective buyers.

Subsequently, the entire transactions get entangled in legal wrangles causing distress to buyers and actual owners.

Thus, it has been proposed to book such “mediators” under the Goondas Act if they are found involved in such illegal transactions for more than two or three times, he added.

All the five Deputy Superintendents of Police in Kancheepuram police district have been provided with striking force by drawing police personnel from the police stations coming under the respective jurisdictions.

The strike force would accompany the DSP whenever he required their help to control law and order situation or to regulate traffic movement in case of road accidents and to conduct night vehicle check-ups.

Formation of DSP strike forces has helped to check illegal sand quarrying activity along the river Palar in the last two months, he claimed.
