Mumbai: Suresh Shastri, India’s umpire in the ICC International Panel of umpires, is thrilled at having got an opportunity to officiate in the two four-day games of the SuperSport series in South Africa. Shastri officiated at Kingsmead, Durban, and at East London. “I have come back with a valuable experience. The key was getting adjusted to the bounce, movement of the seam and pitch conditions. I stood in the matches between Nashua Doplphins and bizhub Highveld Lions and between Nashua Titans and Chevrolet Warriors. South Africa’s six best teams take part in the SuperSport series and all are franchise owned teams,” said Shastri, who will be the third umpire for the third and fourth Tests between India and Australia at Delhi and Nagpur. From the ongoing season the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) and Cricket South Africa have instituted a pioneering exchange of umpires programme. Shavir Tarapore, appointed as an ICC Third Umpire group will get an opportunity next February to stand in matches in South Africa. “Two South African umpires will officiate in the Duleep Trophy matches each in January. The BCCI is also in dialogue with Cricket Australia for a similar programme, but we will start with one umpire,” said Ratnakar Shetty, Chief Administrative Officer, BCCI. — Special Correspondent
