BJP criticises attack on VHP office

Staff Reporter

NCP’s planned conspiracy: Nitin Gadkari

Mumbai: Activists from the Nationalist Congress Party’s youth wing vandalised the office of the Vishwa Hindu Parishad in Nashik on Saturday.

NCP leader Chhagan Bhujbal said the attack was to protest the involvement of a Hindu organisation in the Malegaon blast. Five NCP activists have been arrested.

Criticising the NCP, State BJP president Nitin Gadkari said in a statement: “This is a planned conspiracy of the NCP and the Students Islamic Movement of India activists. They are maligning the organisation. We demand an investigation into the matter. Our ideology does not permit us to attack defenceless people, but if someone attacks us we will pay them back in the same coin.”

Mr. Gadkari said the charges against Pragya Singh Chandrapal Singh Thakur, arrested by the Anti-Terrorism Squad, Mumbai, in connection with the Malegaon blast have not been proved yet.

He accused the Congress-NCP combine of playing “vote-bank politics” by dividing communities, with an eye on the coming elections.

Three people were arrested by the ATS here on Thursday for alleged involvement in the blast.
