FAST: Kerala Congress(M) leader K.M. Mani inaugurating a public meeting held as part of a 24-hour UDF-sponsored fast led by Joseph M. Puthussery, MLA, in Mallappally town on Tuesday. PATHANAMTHITTA: Kerala Congress(M) leader K.M. Mani has alleged that the otherwise peaceful State of Kerala has become a safe haven for terrorists and a land of violence under the Left Democratic Front (LDF) rule. Mr. Mani was inaugurating a public meeting held as part of the United Democratic Front-sponsored 24-hour fast in Mallappally town, protesting against the growing crime rate in this part of the State, on Tuesday. Mr. Mani alleged that a total anarchy was prevailing in the State owing to the failure of the government in containing violence and terrorist activities in different parts of the State. Union government’s warning on the reported terrorist activities in the State was being ignored by the LDF government. Criminal elements were thriving both in towns and villages as the police remained mute spectators, he added. ‘Regular affair’Winding up the 24-hour fast, Joseph M. Puthusserry, MLA, alleged that attack on socio-environmental activists by sand, land and spirit mafia had become a regular affair in the district. He said the law and order machinery was at its height of degeneration, leaving the common people at the receiving end. If the State failed to ensure normal life in the State, the Centre should intervene to lend a helping hand to the common masses of Kerala, he added. K. Jayavarma, Lalu Thomas, Saji Chacko, Mony Mathew, Reji Thomas and T.A.M. Ismail were the other UDF leaders who participated in the hunger strike.
