BHUBANESWAR: The New Delhi-based eminent sculptor K.P. Soman will soon make the city his second home. A pioneer of the public art movement in India, he would work with the city-based Bakul Foundation and will also run a number of public art programmes. “Soman will work towards art education for the common people with an objective to empower people through art. He has visualised plans to initiate some projects that would engage people with contemporary social and political issues through the medium of art,” informed Bakul Foundation Director Sujit Mohapatra. Soman, who opted to leave his job of a visiting faculty member of sculpture at the famous University of Baroda to serve Orissa, is quite enthusiastic about working in the State and feels that Orissa is now ripe for a cultural renaissance; Mohapatra said and added that he is quite keen in creating a visual sensitivity in the public.
