KFDC clarifies on cardamom quality

Thiruvananthapuram: The Kerala Forest Development Corporation has expressed doubts as to whether the cardamom sample, which reportedly failed the quality test came from the consignment supplied by it to the Sabarimala Sri Dharma Shastha Temple.

The Managing Director of the Corporation, reacting to a report in these columns to the effect that the cardamom supplied by the KFDC failed the quality test, said that he had not received any official intimation about it. After receiving it, the KFDC would insist on taking samples from the consignment supplied by it in the presence of its representatives and subjecting it to quality test, he said. The MD stated that the agreement between the KFDC and the Travancore Devaswom Board for supply of cardamom was reached on the basis of a tender submitted by the former along with sample of cardamom. The KFDC started supplying cardamom to the Board only this season. The supply was made from the stock harvested during this season which was of good quality, he said.

The MD pointed out that the KFDC was the regular supplier of cardamom to well known ayurvedic medicine manufacturers like Aryavaidyasala, Kottakkal, Oushadhi and Coimbatore Aryavaidya Pharmacy and none of them had complained about the quality of its produce.
