dated October 30, 1958: Indo-Pak understanding

The International Press Institute is attempting to organise periodical meetings of Indian and Pakistani editors to foster better understanding between the Press in the two countries. Mr. E.J.B. Rose, Director of the Institute, arrived in Calcutta on October 28 from Dacca where he met Major-General Umrao Khan, Martial Law Administrator in East Pakistan, and members of the Press. He explained that periodical meetings of editors of different countries called by the IPI discussed reports of one country in the Press of another and obstacles that stood in the way of better reporting and fair comments. Political issues were not discussed in such conferences. The Institute, Mr. Rose continued, would like to be of help to Asian newspapers and more to language newspapers.
