Great response to NREGS, says Collector

PUDUKOTTAI: Response from the villagers to the National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme has been overwhelming in the district, Collector Reeta Harish Thakkar said.

Presiding over the mass contact day programme held at Kottaikadu village in Mullankurichi village panchayat near Alankudi recently, the Collector said that a large number of villagers had registered their names to benefit under the scheme.

She appealed to the villagers to abide by the norms being specified jointly by the Village Panchayat president and the officials on the length or depth of a channel to be dug to be eligible for the wages.

The Collector gave away assistances to the tune of Rs.15.35 lakh to the villagers on the occasion.
