MALAPPURAM: The Indian Medical Association (IMA) will hold its 51st State conference at Perinthalmanna on November 7, 8 and 9. More than 2,000 doctors from across the State will attend the conference to be held at V.K. Community Hall. Minister for Health P.K. Sreemathy will inaugurate the conference on November 9. Minister for Local Administration Paloli Mohammed Kutty will be the chief guest. The IMA State unit, with membership strength of 18,000, is holding its State conference for the second time at Perinthalmanna. The first meeting was held in 1994. The organisers said here on Thursday that the inaugural day of the conference would be devoted to discussions on various social welfare schemes implemented by the IMA. Schemes run by the IMA such as palliative clinics, geriatric clinics and blood banks have already won accolades from the public. The second day of the conference will be devoted to continuing medical education (CME) programmes of doctors. Several papers on various diseases and issues afflicting the public will be presented at the day-long session. Yaven Ling, orthopaedist from Taiwan, will lead a class on erosion of bones. The organisers said there would be discussions on epidemics, quality of medicines, antibiotics and the role of doctors in the last phase of human lives.
