CPI (M) ridicules Minister’s claim

VIZIANAGARAM: The CPI (M) district committee has made light of the tall claim of Minister for Housing Botcha Satyanarayana that the ongoing ‘Indiramma sambaralu’ is a major success.
In his hometown, Vizianagaram, Indiramma programme was a flop as only 2000 houses were sanctioned against the promised 10,000 for the poor, M. Krishna Murty, CPI (M) district secretary, said at a press conference here on Friday.
He said that a number of poor were photographed for house sites but they were not given one so far. On Rajiv Swagruha, the Left leader said that the government collected Rs.3000 from each of the 7000 applicants as deposits but so far the administration had not acquired the land.
Under Rajiv Gruhakalpa, some 1,800 workers had paid Rs.1000 each as deposit. Of them 430 alone were sanctioned houses and the construction work still was at foundation stage.
Though the primary objective of the ‘Indiramma programme’ was to build pucca houses in place of huts, not even one hut dweller out of 2000 in the town were sanctioned houses, he said.
Stir planned
Mr. Krishna Murty said that the party would enlighten people on the programme in the next one week and mobilise them for the two-day siege of tehsildar offices on November 11 and 12.
