Ezhuthachan award for Akkitham

Recognition: Culture Minister M.A. Baby congratulating poet Akkitham at his daughter’s house in Thrissur on Saturday.

Thrissur: Eminent poet Akkitham Achuthan Namboodiri has been selected for Ezhuthachan Puraskaram, the highest literary award instituted by the State government.

Cultural Affairs Minister M.A. Baby personally informed it to the poet at his daughter’s residence at Ayyanthole, near here. The award carries Rs.1 lakh, citation and a statuette.

A panel chaired by poet O.N.V.Kurup selected Akkitham for the award. In his message, Mr. Kurup said that poems written by Akkitham were everlasting.

His poems, written half-a-century ago, were still relevant and would remain so in the years to come, he added. The award would be presented at a function to be held at Durbar Hall, Thiruvananthapuram, at a later date convenient to the Chief Minister and Akkitham, the Minister said. Akkitham said he was very happy to get the prestigious award.
