This Day That Age
General Ayub Khan told foreign correspondents in Karachi on October 30 that on the question of Kashmir, “we must have a satisfactory solution. It affects our security and our whole existence. Should we be forced to adopt extreme measures, the responsibility will be that of India.” Asked if he meant war, General Ayub said, “Yes certainly.” Gen. Ayub Khan said that the “people of Kashmir have got to have the choice of going to Pakistan or India. They cannot be held forcibly like the way they are being held now.” Asked if he would meet the Indian Prime Minister, Mr. Jawaharlal Nehru, General Ayub said, “ I would be delighted to meet him if he were prepared to come to an honourable settlement with us. If he wanted to, he could let us know. We have let it be known a peaceful solution is what we are looking for.”
