HYDERABAD: It was Nepali car driver Shankar Kadka who masterminded the murder of housewife Ch. Surekha, 42, the police said on Friday. Claiming a breakthrough in the sensational murder for gain reported 11 days ago in a palatial house on Road no. 37 of Jubilee Hills, police arrested Kadka from a rented house in Medchal where he hid the property he had looted after executing the murder. Two of his associates, Suresh and Sangam, both hailing from Assam, were still at large. Of the Rs. 18 lakh worth jewellery the trio took away, the police could recover property only worth Rs. 9 lakh. Kadka came to the city in 1999 in search of a livelihood and joined as car driver in the house of Surekha in June, 2006. Months later, her husband deserted her. The driver cast his eyes on the wealth and hatched a plot to kill her, West Zone DCP Ravi Varma told a press conference. On the night of October 21, the trio entered the house which was partially bolted. Ms. Surekha who was asleep woke up to the sound and Suresh attacked her. The other two helped in strangling her to death. They ransacked the house, collected the jewelleryand fled. The Jubilee Hills Inspector B. Limba Reddy said they did not stumble upon any evidence to suggest the complicity of the victim’s husband in the murder as alleged by her family members. “Still, we are probing from this angle because two more accused are yet to be arrested,” he said.
