Says State bailed out from economic crisis caused by previous regime
Proposal to extend policy of equal opportunities to construction labour

HYDERABAD: Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy strongly favoured development of the Telugus in an integrated Andhra Pradesh as envisioned by its founding fathers who wanted to see their prosperity in their native soil.

Asserting that his government had indeed realised the dreams of these leaders, he referred to Shankarambadi Sundarachari, who scripted the ‘maa Telugu thalli’ song, and said the latter’s soul would bless the people of the State for the progress achieved during the last four-and-a-half years.

Development

Similarly, Chief Minister of erstwhile Hyderabad State Burgula Ramakrishna Rao was keen that every person was proud of development in the united State. The present government had ensured this by bailing out the State from an economic crisis caused by the previous regime which frequently approached the Reserve Bank of India for overdrafts. He promised that the government would relentlessly strive for equal opportunities to all regions and sections of people in contrast to the “lopsided development” during the TDP government.

Speaking at the 53rd AP Formation Day celebrations, Dr. Reddy also referred to the sacrifices of Swami Ramananda Tirtha and Potti Sriramulu.

He said that the government pursued the policy of equal opportunities in development as it did not want people to get the feeling that their respective regions were backward on account of discrimination.

They should not be deprived of employment, education and health opportunities.

Lion’s share

The government was constantly reviewing whether equal opportunities were extended to different regions and sections of people.

As part of it, a lion’s share of 56 lakh acres was targeted for irrigation in Telangana region out of a total of one crore acres proposed to be developed in the entire State under Jalayagnam.

Dr. Reddy observed that the government proposed to extend the policy of equal opportunities to construction labour by evolving a health insurance scheme. About 50 lakh labourers would be enrolled for the purpose.

Medical treatment

They would be entitled to a policy amount of Rs. two lakh in case of accidents, medical treatment and maternity facilities.
