BHUBANESWAR: Padmini Rout, who won the under-14 World Youth Championship held in Vietnam recently, was accorded hero’s welcome when she arrived in the capital city on Saturday. She was received by a huge enthusiastic crowd at Biju Patnaik Airport and she was brought to her school at DAV School, Chandrasekharpur in a decorated open jeep. On her arrival, over 3,500 students cheered Padmini, who was reading in the Standard-X. The crowd gathered in the school campus gave a standing ovation to the chess champion and the other two rising stars of Orissa chess firmament, Siddhant Mohapatra and Sunyasikta Satapathy. Cash prizeOn behalf of the school, chairman of DAV Schools B.C. Pattnaik felicitated Padmini for her splendid performance by presenting her with a huge garland, memento and a cash prize of Rs. 10,000. Bright futureThe chess sensation said future of India’s chess in general and the chess arena of Orissa in particular was very bright. “One must avail the chance and take the risk of venturing into such arena,” she said. S.R. Chess Centre, Sahid Nagar also felicitated Padmini.
