Chamarajanagar: Minister for Youth Services and Sports Goolihatti Shekar has said that sacrifices of those who have served for the cause of Kannada and for unification of the State should be remembered by all. He was speaking after unfurling the Kannada flag at Dr. Ambedkar Stadium on the occasion of Kannada Rajyotsava here on Saturday. Efforts should be made to preserve the State’s heritage and culture, he said and lauded that contribution of Kannada writers and poets to the unification movement. All those who had contributed for building modern Karnataka should be remembered, he said. Mr. Shekar said that there should be a collective effort to solve the problems of Kannadigas. Kannada had been granted classical language status, he said and congratulated members of Kannada organisations, writers, artistes and public representatives who had strived for the cause. Later, Mr. Shekar inaugurated a sports complex on the district stadium premises. Schoolchildren presented cultural programmes on the occasion. A portrait of Goddess Bhuvaneshwari was taken out in a procession from the district stadium. Chamarajanagar MP M. Shivanna, Deputy Commissioner Manojkumar Meena and Chief Executive Officer of zilla panchayat G. Jayaram were among those present. Members of Kannada organisations in Chamarajanagar town celebrated Rajyotsava by hoisting Kannada flags at various places, performing puja to Goddess Bhuvaneshwari and distributing sweets.
