Glee: Members of Kodagu Kannada Sahitya Parishat and parishat president T.P. Ramesh (with the portrait of Bhuvaneshwari) celebrating the classical language status accorded to Kannada, in Madikeri on Saturday. Madikeri: Kodagu Kannada Sahitya Parishat president T.P. Ramesh said here on Saturday that according classical language status to Kannada was a great honour to Kannadigas on the occasion of the Kannada Rajyotsava. It has enhanced the prestige and reputation of Kannada language and its people, who had launched a concerted effort to achieve classical language status to Kannada, Mr. Ramesh told The Hindu. He said it is likely that the Centre would give grants for the development of the Kannada language and also for research on it. Mr. Ramesh also thanked the Centre for bestowing the honour to Kannada. Led by Mr. Ramesh, the District and Madikeri taluk Kannada Sahitya Parishat office-bearers, observed ‘Vijayotsava’ at the General K.S. Thimayya Circle in the morning here. They burst crackers later to celebrate the milestone. Celebrations were also reported from Kushalnagar by the Kannada Rakshana Vedike activists. The District Administration has instructed the government departments to to celebrate .
