‘104’ service for Vizianagaram district soon: Minister

VIZIANAGARAM: Minister for Forests S. Vijayarama Raju said on Saturday that ‘104’ service (fixed day mobile health service) would be introduced shortly for the benefit of people in remote areas of the district. This would be in addition to ‘108’ service and Rajiv Arogya Sri scheme. So far 81 camps were conducted as part of the Arogya Sri and 19,400 patients examined. Of them 4,100 were referred to corporate hospitals for treatment. About 1,600 of them were operated, he said and added that Rs.5 crores was spent on the purpose. The Minister was speaking after paying floral tributes to Potti Sriramulu and unfurling the national flag on the occasion of the State Formation Day celebrations at the Police Grounds here.

Stating that Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy was keen on developing the State on all fronts, Mr. Vijayarama Raju said that 1,02,582 houses for the poor were planned under the Indiramma-III programme in the district. In the first two phases, 2,10,800 houses were sanctioned.

Comparing the number of pensions paid during the TDP rule with that of the present government, he said that 63,269 pensions were sanctioned alone in the third phase against 61,330 pensions prior to 2004. In the first two phases 1,34,404 pensions were sanctioned for widows, senior citizens, physically challenged and weavers. Under the NREGP, 40,000 works were approved at a cost of Rs. 527crores. He said 2.20 crore man days were created and paid Rs.164 crores as wages to three lakh families.

Reeling out statistics and achievements of the YSR government during the last four-and-half years, the Minister appealed to people to join hands for putting the State on the path of progress. Later, he distributed assets worth Rs. 29.31crores to groups and the physically challenged.

ZP chief’s plea

Zilla Parishad Chairperson B. Appala Naidu has suggested issue of government orders in Telugu for easy understanding.

Talking to reporters after unfurling the flag designed by State Official Language Commission at the Zilla Parishad on Saturday, Mr. Naidu said that the achievement of classical language status for Telugu was a result of the efforts of the commission and thanked Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, AICC president Sonia Gandhi and Union Minister for Culture Ambika Soni for their gesture. He said that the largest speaking language after Hindi was Telugu in the country and it was a happy occasion for celebrations.

Grant utilisation

Stating that the district ranked third in the utilisation of backward region grant, he said allocation of grants for backward districts like Vizianagaram would help improve infrastructure facilities.
