Mayor launches planting of saplings
Mayor M. Subramanian on Saturday launched the planting of 10,000 saplings in the city to mark the Local Bodies Day.
He said 1,000 saplings, protected by tree guards, would be planted in each of the 10 Corporation zones.
A programme to promote AIDS awareness was organised for Corporation councillors. Students of the Corporation schools put up a dance and music show, based on socially relevant themes.
Later in the day, the Mayor met Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi to hand over a cheque for Rs. 3.21 lakh contributed by the councillors for the welfare of Sri Lankan Tamils. Commissioner Rajesh Lakhoni was present.
