Tributes paid to Potti Sriramulu on the occasion of State Formation Day Assets worth Rs. 11.86 crores distributed to beneficiaries VISAKHAPATNAM: The State government was implementing unique developmental and welfare programmes in all sectors which was the dream of many stalwarts and leaders who fought for a separate State of Andhra Pradesh, Minister for Commercial Taxes Konathala Ramakrishna said while addressing the State Formation Day function organised by the district administration at the Collectorate premises here on Saturday. Earlier, he unfurled the national flag and garlanded the portrait of Potti Sriramulu. Mr. Ramakrishna listed the schemes being implemented by the State government. Loans worth Rs. 216 crores had been waived benefiting as many as 1.54 lakh farmers. As part of the Jalayagnam, work was on to complete the left canal of the Polavaram project by 2011 by spending Rs. 485 crores. Irrigation water to 1.50 lakh acres and 23.44 TMC of water for domestic and industrial purpose would be supplied through the canal. Works worth Rs. 3,000 crores to provide a distribution system would commence soon. Proposals were submitted for the second phase of the Polavaram project to provide water to eight lakh acres of upland areas in north coastal Andhra. Out of the 3.48 lakh houses sanctioned under the Indiramma programme, 1.11 lakh houses were completed and the rest were in different stages of construction. The Rs. 95-crore modern terminal building of the airport would be inaugurated in January next. First phase of the Gangavaram port would be inaugurated soon, the Minister said. Mr. Ramakrishna explained the industrial development, SEZs, implementation of the Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission, Rajiv Swagruha, the Rajiv Arogya Sri, health infrastructure development, the Rajiv Yuva Shakti and other programmes. Mr. Ramakrishna mourned 38 greyhound constables and others who were drowned in the Balimela incident and assured that all help would be extended to the families of the deceased. He distributed assets worth Rs. 11.86 crores to the beneficiaries. Schoolchildren presented a cultural programme. Zilla Parishad Chairman G. Ramamurthy Naidu, MLAs -- D. Srinivasa Rao, P. Mangapathi Rao, U.V. Ramana Murthy Raju and S. Ranga Raju -- Collector Sanjay Kumar, Commissioner of Police N. Sambasiva Rao, SP Akun Sabharwal, GVMC Commissioner D. Sridhar, Joint Collector P. Satyanarayana Reddy, DRO K. Madan Mohan Rao and others participated.
