State to release 400 cr. a month for Indiramma
Special Correspondent
HYDERABAD: With a view to providing dwelling units to maximum number of beneficiaries by March, the government has decided to pump in at least a sum of Rs. 400 crore a month towards the Indiramma housing programme.
At present, Rs. 370 crore is flowing out from the ex-chequer every month for the housing scheme.
The government has also decided to release Rs. 466 crore immediately for completing the houses taken up for Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes beneficiaries.
At a meeting held here on Saturday to review the Indiramma housing programme, Chief Minister Y. S. Rajasekhara Reddy asked officials to fix an upper limit for equated monthly instalments (EMI) payable by the beneficiaries against the bank loans taken by them towards their contribution to house-construction. It would be Rs. 300 a month in case of rural areas and Rs. 500 in towns/ cities.
The Chief Minister noted that over 41.5 lakh houses were under different stages of construction -- 21.46 lakh of them under Indiramma Phase I and 20.04 lakh under Phase II.
