No change in alliance for elections: Congress leader

Staff Reporter

Alliance is strong and working well: K.B. Krishnamurthy

PUDUCHERRY: There will not be any significant change in the political front of which the Congress party is a partner in Tamil Nadu and Puducherry, AICC secretary in-charge of the State and the Union Territory K.B. Krishnamurthy said here on Saturday.

“As things stand, we do not foresee any significant change. The grand alliance is strong and working well,” he said after meeting party workers at the Puducherry Pradesh Congress Committee office. There could be some adjustments and alterations because of the delimitation exercise. They would be carried out after mutual consultations.

Stating that it was too early to discuss about alliance, he said the high command was gearing up the party machinery ahead of the Lok Sabha elections.

On the differences of opinion within the party’s Puducherry unit, following the change in Congress Legislature Party leadership, he said there had been instances where the Chief Minister was replaced midway. Several Chief Ministers had been changed, but none of them had left the party.

On his meeting with former Chief Minister N. Rangasamy, he said: “Mr. Rangasamy is a senior leader. It was just a courtesy call.”

Asked whether the meeting was held to arrive at a compromise, he said there was “no difference of opinion within the party, and the entire party is united.”

Chief Whip P. Angalane also met Mr. Krishnamurthy.
