set for a cultural fiesta: Tastefully decorated stage at Hampi. Hampi: Hampi reverberated when 26 police bands from different districts marched from Virupaksha temple to Yeduru Basava Mantapa, playing melodious tunes, including the popular ‘sare jahan se achcha’ here on Sunday. Curtain raiserThe event was a curtain raiser for the three-day Hampi Utsav, a mega cultural festival of dance, drama and music, to begin on Monday here. Minister for Tourism G. Janardhana Reddy inaugurated the event. All the police bands performed on the stage enthralling the audience. Hundreds had gathered to witness the event. The Karnataka police band enthralled the audience with ‘jaya bharata janananiya tanujate’ and ‘hachchevu kannadada deepa’. Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Reddy said all efforts had been made by officials, elected representatives and others concerned to make Hampi Utsav a grand success and that the utsav would recapture the past glory of the Vijayanagar period. Ministers G. Karunakar Reddy and B. Sriramulu, Legislators B.S. Anand Singh and B. Chandra Nayak, zilla panchayat president Pushparekha and vice-president Savita bai, Inspector-General of Police (Eastern Range) Davanagere H.N. Satyanarayan Rao, Deputy Commissioner B. Shivappa, and Superintendent of Police Seemant Kumar Singh participated.
