They planned to disrupt Assembly elections, police say Militants received ‘specialised training’ JAMMU: Two Hizb-ul Mujahideen militants, who the police claimed had entered the country through Nepal to disrupt the coming Assembly elections, have been arrested in the Jammu region. The duo were identified as Farooq Ahmed Bhat alias Najeebullah of Budgam district of Kashmir and Ashiq Hussain alias Faizal Iqbal of Handwara tehsil of Bandipora. They were arrested in Jammu and Ramban districts on Saturday night. Trained in Pakistan“They were trained in Pakistan and were sent by Hizb leadership in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir to disrupt the forthcoming elections and create terror by triggering explosions in the State,” police said. During interrogation, Bhat confessed to having crossed the border with 18 others via Dodipura in Kupwara district of Kashmir to reach Lipa valley in PoK for training in weapons and explosives in 2001, police said. He received “specialised training” in guerrilla warfare at training camps in Alaqa Ghair there and later trained hundreds of militants. NetworkBhat had volunteered to come to Jammu to establish an organisational network to carry out militant activities, police added. But before he could meet his associates in Jammu, Bhat was nabbed and was being interrogated. Security agencies were concerned over recent incidents of infiltration of militants via Nepal and were taking steps to check them, officials said. – PTI
