Prime Minister Nehru, declaring open a labour workers’ training college, the first of its kind in this country, under the auspices of the Hindustan Mazdoor Sevak Sangh in Indore on November 3, said that workers should strive hard to preserve industrial peace and in the event of any dispute between their employer and themselves, they should resort to Gandhian methods for solving it. He decried the Communist tactics of increasing class conflict in industries and said that the weapons of hartal, hunger-strikes, lock-outs and demonstrations had now become out-dated in the movement. Mr. Nehru said a strong trade union movement could play a vital part in safeguarding the interests of the workers.
