Nagaland claims title

DEHRADUN: Nagaland beat Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) 2-0 to win the title in the all-India Police badminton championship here on Monday.

V. Hibbu of Nagaland won the men’s singles title beating Ashok Kumar (Uttarakhand) in the final.

The results:

Team championship: Final: Nagaland bt ITBP 2-0 (V. Hibbu bt Nishith Chandra 20-22, 21-10, 21-11; V. Hibbu & Imle Sunep bt Nishith Chandra & V. Anand 21-12, 21-14.); Semifinals: ITBP bt Tamil Nadu 2-1, Nagaland bt Punjab 2-1.

Individual events (finals): Open singles: V. Hibbu (Nag) bt Ashok Kumar (Uttarakhand) 21-19, 21-18. Doubles: Ashok Kumar & Radheyshyam (Manipur) bt Imle Sunep (Nag) & Wankhede (IB) 16-21, 21-13, 21-11.

Mixed doubles: Ravi & Rajeshwari (TN) bt Ashok Kumar & Sudha Joshi (Uttarakhand) 21-16, 18-21, 21-17.

Over-40: Manmohan Sharma (Pun) bt Ravi (TN) 21-14, 21-14; Doubles: Ashok Kumar & Radhey Shyam (Manipur) bt A.K. Mittal & Manmohan Sharma (Pun) 21-12, 17-21, 21-17.
