PANCHKULA: Chennai Superstars claimed a semifinal berth by virtue of its emphatic 75-run victory over Mumbai Champs in the Indian Cricket League here on Sunday night. Later, Lahore Badshahs improved its chances with a seven wicket victory over Chandigarh Lions. Lahore and Chandigarh each have six points from six matches. Naved-ul-Hasan excelled for Lahore with an unbeaten 50 off 33 balls with six fours and one six. G. Vignesh top-scored for Chennai with 88 (53b, 4x7, 6x5) as the side hit up 205 for seven. A target of 206 was beyond Mumbai’s reach and it hardly made an attempt to make a fight of it. Nathan Astle (68, 61b, 4x3, 6x4) offered resistance but then it made no difference to the outcome of the match. The victory carried Chennai Superstars’ points tally to ten from six matches and placed the team at the top of the table. Mumbai Champs dismal run left it with a mere two points and just one match in hand. The scores: Chennai Superstars 205 for seven in 20 overs (G. Vignesh 88, J.J. van der Wath three for 24) bt Mumbai Champs 130 for five in 20 overs (Nathan Astle 68 not out). Chandigarh Lions 136 for six in 20 overs (Lou Vincent 33) lost to Lahore Badshahs 137 for three in 16 overs (Naved-ul-Hasan 50 not out).
