Auto, taxi fares go up

Thiruvananthapuram: Autorickshaw and taxi fares, including of tourist taxis, have been revised. The orders have been issued by the State government after talks at various levels.

The minimum fare for the first 1.25 km for autorickshaws has been increased to Rs.10. The fare for every km after that is Rs.6 at the rate of 50 paise for one-twelfth a km. The waiting charge is Rs.5 for every 15 minutes, subject to a maximum of Rs.200 a day.

In the case of taxis, including tourist taxis, the minimum fare for the first 3 km has been increased to Rs.50. The fare for every km after that is Rs.7.50. The waiting charge is Rs.25 an hour, subject to a maximum of Rs.300 a day. For air-conditioned cabs, 10 per cent of the fare can be collected as additional charge.

The provision under which 50 per cent of the fare can be collected in addition for night trips in major towns and for one-way trips in other places in the case of autorickshaws will continue. The revision has been made on the basis of the pleas made by the organisations in the sector.
